The 2016 Geelong Father of the Year is Ray Witnish!

Congratulations to our 2016 Geelong Father of the Year Award - Ray Witnish.

The Award winner was announced at a special breakfast event held on Friday 2 September at the Geelong Football Club in front of an audience of more than 300 business and community representatives.

Ray's nine year-old daughter, Bridgette, a student at Nazareth Catholic Primay School, submitted the winning nomination. Her entry was selected from hundreds of written nominations submitted by primary school children across the region.

The Geelong Father of the Year Award - now in its 17th year - is a partnership between Bethany Community Support, the Rotary Club of Geelong and the Geelong Advertiser.

The Award invites children in our community to explain why their ‘special bloke’ - their dad or a special father figure - deserves to be the Father of the Year.

Each year we receive entries from children who write about a range of father figures including uncles, brothers, grandfathers, school teachers and sporting coaches. The Award is a celebration of the special role that these men play, as viewed through children’s eyes.

Ray and his family will enjoy a great prize package which includes:

* Accommodation, dinner and family activities in Melbourne

* A family rail pass donated by V/Line

* A year’s supply of men’s socks from SIRSOCK

* A 12 month Swim, Sport and Leisure family membership courtesy of City of Greater Geelong

 * A framed family portrait courtesy of Geelong Advertiser

In addition, for writing the winning nomination Bridgette receives a $200 savings account from the Bendigo Bank.
